Congratulations to our BME third graders for exceeding their goal of collecting 1,000 items for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
The students collected 1,136 food item donations to feed those in need throughout 25 counties across Virginia. A school-wide effort, the third graders initiated the project with the help of their teachers and Assistant Principal Ms. Adriane Butler. Instructional Coach April Douglas helped students chart the donations each day to keep track of their goal.
Third grade teacher Cristin McGarey told NBC29 reporter Annie Schroeder she hopes her students learned a lesson far beyond what they can learn in the classroom.
“We can take a lot of our skills and knowledge of things that we’re doing in school and give it back to the community,” McGarey said.
