    7th and 8th graders present “When Ancestors Come to Dinner”

    Throughout the month of March, Buford Middle School has observed Black History Month in a variety of ways including a school-wide performance of “When Ancestors Come to Dinner” presented by 7th and 8th grade students. Buford Reading Specialist Edna Harris organized the play auditions and performances. “Once students auditioned, I sent out “Golden Tickets” to announce they were selected for the role they tried out for,” said Harris.  “All students who auditioned received golden tickets via email, and the sounds of joy when they yelled ‘I got a golden ticket!’ were priceless.” “When Ancestors Come to Dinner” tells the story of the Wooling ...

    Fall 2020: New school year, new commitment to save energy and water!

    Charlottesville City Schools and the City’s Energy and Water Management Team are working together to reduce the energy and water footprint of all City schools. In 2019, the School Board approved an Energy and Water Performance resolution, showing a commitment to achieving and maintaining high performing school facilities.  Continuing on past efforts, the City’s maintenance and development teams are specifying high efficiency building equipment, such as high-efficiency chillers and LED lighting, and are enhancing operational control through advanced building automation systems.   • 7th graders learn about medical careers at “Inside UVA Medicine”

    Buford seventh graders recently visited the University of Virginia School of Medicine and UVA School of Nursing for the 5th annual “Inside UVA Medicine” event. The field trip introduced middle schoolers to various careers in the UVA Health System from nurses and doctors to engineers, computer programmers, and emergency techs. Buford School counselor Joshua Epps said, “This was an amazing trip that allowed scholars the opportunity to explore careers in the field of medicine and reinforced the message that you can achieve anything that you put your mind to.” During their visit, students toured the Helipad, CT room and participated in a hands-on ...

  • Buford NJHS presents check to SARA Executive Director.

    NJHS donates money to local non-profit

    Buford members of the National Junior Honor Society are living the five tenets of the NJHS: Everyday Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship! Recently, they presented SARA Executive Director Becky Weybright with more than $300 from funds raised in their holiday candygram sale. Weybright says the fund “We want to make sure everything we do contributes to something bigger even if it something small,” said Meredith Hendricks, Buford Middle School NJHS secretary.     Draft Calendar for 2020-21

    UPDATE: The Charlottesville School Board voted to approve this draft in January 2020. The Albemarle County School Board will vote on the calendar (with a possible slight change) later in January. The Charlottesville-Albemarle School Calendar Committee has created a draft calendar for the 2020-21 school year.  The proposed calendar is nearly identical to this year’s.   • Buford volleyball team 2019

    Trojan volleyball sets all-time season record

    Buford girls volleyball finished the season with a win over Collegiate School, ending 16-2, the best season record in school history.  Some of the team’s triumphs included Collegiate School in Richmond, local private schools Covenant School and Tandem Friends, and area public schools WIlliam Monroe and Prospect Heights. Way to go, girls! During the historic season, players were inspired when they attended a women’s volleyball game at UVA and then had the opportunity to talk with UVA Head Coach Aaron Smith about college volleyball.
