Fabulous Fine Arts @ Cville Schools

Here are just a few highlights of what has been happening lately in the Fine Arts program at Charlottesville City Schools. The annual CHS Symphony/Chorus/Fine Arts Celebration featured all of the Charlottesville High School fine arts in one evening.  The performance combined the talents of the CHS Symphony, CHS Choir, CHS Jazz Band, CHS Visual Arts, and CHS Theatre. CHS Choir teacher Will Cooke noted that eight CHS Choir alumni were also singing among the choir. CHS orchestra teacher Laura Thomas credits the strong foundational programs in the elementary and middle schools for enabling the successes at the high school. “The Symphony Orchestra ...

    Elementary Highlights Winter 2018

December was a time for holiday performances and seasonal fun at Charlottesville City Schools. Here is a festive look back on some of the best moments. We loved seeing so many moms, dads, grandparents, uncles, and family friends participating in elementary family engagement events like Muffins for Moms, and Doughnuts for Dads. Student and family engagement facilitator Velvet Coleman was featured in The Daily Progress for her efforts to help all our students be more successful in school. Elementary students across the division visited the Paramount Theater twice so far this year to view live performances of My Father’s Dragon and Guess How Much I ...

  • Students and adults walking to school at Venable.

    Elementary Fall 2017 Highlights

Our schools recently celebrated “Walk to School Day.” At Venable, students walked by grade and were greeted by CHS cheerleaders.  Venable also celebrated the new track at the start of their annual Walk-A-Thon. This track was paid for by the Venable PTO and built by the city Parks & Rec department last summer. It is a great addition for Venable and the the neighboring community, including Lugo-McGinness Academy (Charlottesville’s high school alternative program). The 2nd annual All-Elementary “Friday Knight Lights” Tailgate will be Friday, October 20 at 6 p.m. at CHS. Get to meet cheerleaders and band members before chearing on the ...

  • Burnley Moran Mural painting project

    BME Mural Project

Mr. Ryan Trott’s fourth-grade art students have been busy painting a beautiful hallway mural designed by kids from the Blue Ridge Academic Program. The mural focuses on positive messages of perseverance, effort, and accepting challenge and can be seen on the Burnley-Moran hallway walls leading to the basement level. The project is going so well that we hope to add other murals around our school with messages of diversity, kindness, and strength of character!
