    Fabulous Fine Arts @ Cville Schools

    Here are just a few highlights of what has been happening lately in the Fine Arts program at Charlottesville City Schools. The annual CHS Symphony/Chorus/Fine Arts Celebration featured all of the Charlottesville High School fine arts in one evening.  The performance combined the talents of the CHS Symphony, CHS Choir, CHS Jazz Band, CHS Visual Arts, and CHS Theatre. CHS Choir teacher Will Cooke noted that eight CHS Choir alumni were also singing among the choir.   • CHS students attending the Womens Global Initiative at UVA.

    CHS Winter 2018 Highlights

    Student Aleena Haidari and alum Kibirti Majuto earned an opportunity to ride on a float in the New Year’s Day 2018 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California after winning an essay contest about social justice. The float, titled “Keeping the Promise,” honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other social justice advocates. Each  student also received a $5,000 grant to be used for community projects  or furthering their education. At the December School Board meeting, members of the Student Investment Club donated $1,350 of their earnings to City Schoolyard Garden. Extra, extra read all about it!   • Rehearsal for South Pacific production

    TheatreCHS presents “South Pacific” this week

    Charlottesville High School will present “South Pacific” February 22-25 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center (MLK PAC). Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Times are 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday and 3:00pm on Sunday. Click here to order tickets online.   This  award-winning Rodgers and Hammerstein  musical first appeared on Broadway in 1949 and re-emerged in a 2008 Broadway revival.     CCS Faculty Art Exhibit

    The CCS Faculty Art Exhibit, a long-standing tradition for Charlottesville City Schools,  is now on display in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performance Arts Center (MLK-PAC) lobby from January 22, 2018 to March 26, 2018. The show features drawings, paintings, photographs, sculpture, digital art and mixed-media created by faculty and staff members who work for the nine schools in our division. With more than 20 participants, the exhibit includes works from visual art teachers, school counselors, instructional assistants, administrators, and other support staff. The faculty exhibit overlaps ArtConnections 2018, the annual division-wide student art show. Together, these exhibits illustrate how the visual ...

  • Zero Robotics Team heading to MIT for final round of international coding competition

    The CHS Zero Robotics team will travel to MIT to compete in the final round of the Zero Robotics contest sponsored by NASA and MIT on January 11, 2018. During the finals, CHS students’ code will control small robots aboard the International Space Station. Astronauts aboard the ISS will judge the final round of robot maneuvers while the teams watch via a live video feed. The team of computer programmers from the Charlottesville High School BACON Club (Best All-Around Club of Nerds) earned first place in round one of  the Zero Robotics competition earlier this year and then joined forces with two ...

  • CHS Fall 2017 Highlights

      Fine Arts CHS hosted a group of singers from the Metro Nashville Public Schools to collaborate on a joint musical recording of entertainer BeBe Winan’s song “Right Now (We Need One Another.”  Read The Daily Progress coverage here. A response to this summer’s violence, this beautiful video was shown at the Dave Matthews Band Concert for Charlottesville. Forty CHS students stayed after school for a “paint-in” organized by art teacher Rachel McLaughlin (see photo, above) as one response to the Charlottesville events of August 11-12.   • Theatre CHS presents “A Night of One-Act Performances”

    Charlottesville High School will present two one-act plays on October 25, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the CHS BlackBox Theater. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for adults, and $15 for VIP seating. Click here to order tickets online.   The first play is a Virginia High school League (VHSL) one-act called “1601” that is a student-written and student-directed musical.
