    Back-to-School Supply Lists for 2020-21

    School starts September 8.  Now is a great time to get your school supplies! Below are this year’s CCS school supplies lists.  Copies of these lists are available at area stores. If you have any questions, please call your school. And if you need assistance getting school supplies for this year, please register for a Back to School Bash supply kit being provided free to area students.  You must register your child using this Back to School Bash link to reserve a kit.  For assistance with other school supplies, any fees, or other needs, please contact your school principal or counselor.     GEM team finishes third in area math competition

    Congratulations to our Girls Excelling in Math team (GEM) for their third place finish in the hands-on challenge in the annual competition held each spring at The Village School. Led by coach Liz Petry, the team had to work together to build the tallest, free-standing tower out of recyclable materials that could hold up to six eggs. In addition to the hands-on challenge, there was a team paper-pencil math challenge and an individual paper-pencil challenge. Way to go Riley, Cici, Ellie, Alex, Ruby, Noura, callie, Eleanor, and Charlotte!

    Greenbrier celebrated our fourth graders with the annual 4th Grade Moving Up Ceremony on June 5, 2020. This year’s virtual ceremony featured members of our fourth grade class that will be moving on to fifth grade as well as congratulatory messages and well-wishes from administrators, teachers and staff.     City and Schools promote energy and water conservation-Summer Update

    Charlottesville City Schools and the City’s Energy and Water Management Team are working together to reduce the energy and water footprint of all City schools. In 2019, the School Board approved an Energy and Water Performance resolution, showing a commitment to achieving and maintaining high performing school facilities.  Continuing on past efforts, the City’s maintenance and development teams are specifying high efficiency building equipment, such as high-efficiency chillers and LED lighting, and are enhancing operational control through advanced building automation systems.     The Walker Upper Elementary School school counselors are busy planning their annual visits to all city elementary schools to provide information and guidance to rising fifth graders.     4th graders present annual Minds in Motion performance at MLK PAC

    Our fourth graders amazed us this week with their Minds in Motion performances at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center! Through a unique partnership with Richmond Ballet, each year city fourth graders are introduced to creative expression and live performance through movement and dance at their schools. This year, Minds in Motion teaching artists from Richmond Ballet visited each elementary school for two-week residencies which culminated in two live performances of “Journey of the Monarch.” More photos from the performances can be found on our Facebook page.     Bus stop meet and greets connect schools and families

    Whether dropping in to visit schools or hosting Parent University information workshops or swinging by bus stops with breakfast and books, our family engagement team is always looking for ways to connect schools and families. Throughout the year, Family Engagement Coordinators Velvet Coleman and Bianca Johnson can be seen visiting neighborhood bus stops at their morning bus stop meet and greets.
