STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

STEM education is integrated into all levels of learning at Charlottesville City Schools. From technology education in elementary school to a world-class high-school science club called BACON (Best All-around Club Of Nerds), CCS celebrates investigation and applied science learning for students. In 2016, Charlottesville City Schools developed an innovative iSTEM program that is active in all schools to teach foundational concepts, assist teachers in making math-science-technology connections, and build strong pathways into the division’s cutting-edge engineering programs at Buford Middle School and CHS.

In 2014 and 2015, the division unveiled state-of-the-art engineering labs at Buford Middle School and Charlottesville High School.  The Buford engineering program is a collaboration with the engineering and education schools at the University of Virginia, the Smithsonian Institution, and other area school divisions.
