Charlottesville High School will present two one-act plays on October 25, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the CHS BlackBox Theater. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for adults, and $15 for VIP seating. Click here to order tickets online.

The first play is a Virginia High school League (VHSL) one-act called “1601” that is a student-written and student-directed musical. Featuring the CHS orchestra students as players, the show raises awareness of mental health issues and suicide prevention. Click here for a sneak peak of the first rehearsal!

The second play, a  Virginia Theatre Association Conference (VTA) one-act, is called “The Firebugs.” According to theater director David Becker, the play examines the idea of complacency in the face of danger.

“It’s a timeless piece,” said Becker. “I think it is a really powerful production that really resonates especially well now, but has resonated ever since it was written in 1953.” For more, click here to view Mr. Becker’s commentary on “The Firebugs.”

Theatre CHS has won numerous Virginia High School League awards. Student leadership in directing, costuming, poster design, and more is a hallmark of the program.  For more information, call 245-2410.
