Our long-awaited school reconfiguration is almost here! Starting in August 2026, 5th-graders will remain at their neighborhood elementary schools while 6th-graders begin attending Charlottesville Middle School. Our preschoolers will attend the new early learning program at Walker. We are working with staff on a smooth transition for these grade levels–for both teachers and students.

Elementary School Zoning Changes Approved

To avoid overcrowding at some schools and underutilization of others, Charlottesville City Schools is updating its elementary attendance zones.

The earliest zone changes begin in August 2027, with full implementation in August 2029. To give impacted families the flexibility to make a plan that suits them, we are allowing families to apply early to attend their new school.
