Charlottesville City Schools

How to Register

  • ENROLLMENT

Charlottesville City Schools serves residents of the City of Charlottesville with K-12 education. Additionally, our preschool for ages 3 and 4 serves qualified families. Federal and state laws also provide for the rights of homeless students and undocumented school-age children (without United States citizenship or a student visa). Additionally, CCS accepts a limited number of tuition-paying nonresident students by application.

Students are zoned to one of our six elementary schools by neighborhood. Learn more about attendance zones. During the 2025-26 school year, students citywide attend Walker (Grades 5-6); Charlottesville Middle School (Grades 7-8); and Charlottesville High School (Grades 9-12). Starting in the 2026-27, our schools will be reconfigured so that the neighborhood elementary schools serve K-5, then all students will matriculate to Charlottesville Middle School for Grades 6-8, then Charlottesville High School for Grades 9-12.

Registration for the following school year opens up in our online portal each spring. See instructions below.
