The Virginia Department of Education has published its 2017-18 accreditation ratings on its website, and 100 percent of Charlottesville City Schools met the state’s accreditation standards, compared with 86 percent of schools statewide. Out of 132 divisions in Virginia, Charlottesville is one of just 65 divisions that presently have all their schools fully accredited. This fall, there are a number of exciting developments in CHS athletics. This includes: naming the CHS athletic field for two legendary coaches, another historic golf season, and positive attention from fans and media for our football and field hockey teams. DeBerry-Bingler Field As of October 23, DeBerry-Bingler Field will be the new name of the athletic field at CHS’s Theodose Stadium. Joseph Bingler was a four-sport athlete in Charlottesville City Schools, and after a football scholarship at the University of Virginia and then serving in the Army, he returned to the area. The Edgar and Eleanor Shannon Foundation for Excellence in Public Education: Charlottesville/Albemarle has announced its grant award recipients for the 2015-2016 school year. Twenty-one excellent and innovative proposals from Charlottesville and Albemarle public school teachers have been selected for funding this year totaling $20,089.
