Determine which yellow-highlighted term describes the child you want to register, then follow instructions in the corresponding tab below.

New Students = City of Cville residents who either…

  • Will be Kindergartners for Fall 2022 and are NOT currently enrolled in our preschool
  • Attended our division any time prior to Spring 2022, left, and are returning
  • Are brand-new to our division (starting in Spring or Fall 2022)

Current Students = City of Cville residents who…

  • Attend Charlottesville City Schools in Spring 2022, including our preschool program

Non-Resident Students = Those who do not live in the City of Cville who either …

  • Would like to continue attending our schools by choice in Fall 2022
  • Would like to attend our schools by choice for the first time in Fall 2022

Current Students

Registering for Fall 2022 (2022-23 School Year)

Each spring or summer, current Cville Schools students (including preschool students returning for kindergarten) should complete re-registration forms. These forms will be posted soon in the parent portal of PowerSchool website (not the PowerSchool app).

  • If you already have an account, PowerSchool also has a username and password retrieval system.
  • If you’re opening an account for the first time, call your school or 245-2962 to get the codes you’ll need.

Non-Resident Students

Registering for Fall 2022 (2022-23 School Year)

NCHS IMG_2549on-resident students are welcome at Charlottesville City Schools when space is available. In fact, almost 300 students attend our schools by choice.


Returning Non-Resident Students

  • Complete an application and submit it to the school registrar. Applications for returning non-resident students are due May 23.
  • Once you have been accepted, you will need to complete the 2022-23 re-registration forms in PowerSchool (to be posted around May 5).
  • Submit tuition payment in full by August 1.

  • Grades K-8:
    • $1,337 for the first child in a family
    • $1,094 for each additional child from the same family
  • Grades 9-12:
    • $1,701 for the first child in a family
    • $1,458 for each additional child from the same family

What is the required documentation to enroll in Charlottesville City Schools?

Students enrolling in the Charlottesville City Schools for the first time must provide:

  • Original birth certificate (or certified copy)
  • Proof of residency
    • Mortgage, lease, real estate tax statement OR
    • Driver’s license/government-issued photo ID plus current utility bill (electric, gas, water/sewer)
  • A completed Virginia School Entrance Health Form showing that the child has received a physical examination performed by a physician within a year of enrollment. (Required for new students in preschool-grade 5; required for all kindergartners, even if they were enrolled in the preschool program.) Suggestion: Call your doctor’s office to ask if they’ll fax your child’s form to your school. Fax numbers are listed with school registrar contact list, above, or on this page.
  • A completed immunization record (for all grades; part of the School Entrance Health Form)
  • Custody or guardianship paperwork (if necessary)
  • Don’t have everything? Bring what you have to the school, and they will help you.
