Required Documentation
Students enrolling in the Charlottesville City Schools for the first time must provide:
- Original birth certificate (or certified copy)
- Proof of residency
- Mortgage, lease, real estate tax statement OR
- Driver’s license/government-issued photo ID plus current utility bill (electric, gas, water/sewer)
- A completed Virginia School Entrance Health Form showing that the child has received a physical examination performed by a physician within a year of enrollment. (Required for new students in preschool-grade 5; required for all kindergartners, even if they were enrolled in the preschool program.) Suggestion: Call your doctor’s office to ask if they’ll fax your child’s form to your school. Fax numbers are listed with school registrar contact list, above, or on this page.
- A completed immunization record (for all grades; part of the School Entrance Health Form)
- Custody or guardianship paperwork (if necessary)
Current Students
For Students Who Are City Residents And Currently Attend Charlottesville City Schools:
Prior to the start of school in August, current Cville Schools students (including preschool students returning for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year) should complete 2021-22 re-registration forms when they are available (starting in April). These forms will be posted in the web-based parent portal of PowerSchool (not the app).

Non-Resident Students
For students who do not live in the City of Charlottesville:
Non-resident students are welcome at Charlottesville City Schools when space is available. In fact, almost 300 students attend our schools by choice.
2020-21 Tuition Rates
- Grades K-8:
- Grades 9-12:
- $1,701 for the first child in a family
- $1,458 for each additional child from the same family
For New Non-Resident Students:
- Learn about the schools! You can call your school of interest to set up a visit.

- Gather all required documentation (see list below).
- Complete an application and submit along with required documentation to the school registrar (see below). (Applications will be available after May 1)
- For Charlottesville High School, here is a letter to Prospective Non-Resident Students.
- Submit tuition payment in full by August 1.
- A waiting list may be established.
