  • ACADEMICS at CCS

Charlottesville City Schools offers rigorous, inclusive, and relevant learning experiences for all learners. Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to challenge students at every level and prepare them for success in college, career, and life.

Our six neighborhood elementaries build strong foundations in math and literacy while also developing creativity and critical thinking through fine arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) beginning in kindergarten.

At Charlottesville Middle School, a core curriculum with opportunities for high-school credit is complemented by ways for students to explore their own interests – from world languages to fine arts to career & technical education.

At Charlottesville High School, students choose from an extensive catalog of advanced and specialized offerings. These options include dual enrollment courses—which provide both high school and college credit—Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college-level study, and a broad range of career and technical education programs for hands-on, job-specific training. These opportunities allow students to tailor their education to their personal goals and prepare for their post-secondary paths.

A Strategic Plan for Academic Excellence

Our division also offers excellent support systems, including for students with disabilities, English language learners, and gifted students. Aligned with our 2028 Strategic Plan, our schools are also actively working to close achievement gaps in reading and literacy.
