Courtney Saunders named principal at Tall Oaks Elementary

Ms. Courtney Kraus Saunders has been selected to become the principal of Tall Oaks Elementary School starting July 1. Saunders is currently the school’s Assistant Principal.


“In the past year and a half serving as assistant principal, Ms. Saunders has become a vital part of the fabric of the Tall Oaks community,” said Charlottesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Royal Gurley. “She is a leader with the skills to move elementary instruction forward, ensuring that every student achieves their full potential.” 


Saunders joined Charlottesville City Schools in 2021 as an assistant principal of Buford Middle School. Previously, she taught history and Dual Enrollment intro to teaching at Orange County High School. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from James Madison University. 


"I am honored to step into the role of principal at Tall Oaks,” Saunders said. “During my time as the assistant principal, I have been able to see firsthand the dedication of our talented teachers, the enthusiasm of our students, and the incredible support of the Tall Oaks school community. I am excited to build upon the strong foundation that’s been established at Tall Oaks and lead our school into its next chapter."
